Clients expect to see national standards in outdoor and adventure activities in Jersey. This page explains just what the awards mean when you kayak with us.
We meet the following standards.
British Canoeing (BC)
The national governing body for all paddle sport in the UK.
We undergo annual inspection against the following criteria:
Ensure that the overall person in charge of paddle sport activities is appropriately qualified for the activities run.
Activities are carried out by appropriately qualified and experienced coaches holding the appropriate BC Coaching Award, First Aid certificate and up-to-date BC membership.
Undertaken risk assessments for all paddle sport activities.
Have a code of practice, along with satisfactory operational plans, and an emergency action plan are in place.
A safety policy statement is in force.
Adequate public and employer’s liability insurance.
Child protection policy, along with a satisfactory staff induction policy and a criminal records disclosure policy.
Complies with all statutory regulations concerning young people and paddle sport along with all BCU safety requirements.
A safety scheme devised by the Adventure Activity Industry Advisory Committee (AAIAC) for providers of adventurous activities that are outside the scope of the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority (AALA).
If we were based in the UK, Jersey Kayak Adventures would need to hold an AALA licence. However, the AALA remit does not extend to the Channel Islands.

Ports of Jersey
We undergo annual inspection and are licensed by Ports of Jersey.
National training scheme to promote responsible wildlife watching in the marine environment.
All our lead instructors undertake WiSe training to watch wildlife, whilst minimising any potential disturbance.
Jersey based scheme, helping organisations to make a positive impact on the environment.
Our performance is assessed in the following areas:
We hold Ecoactive Leader grade.
Green Tourism Business Gold grade
We are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of environmental and sustainability areas.

Operate in accordance with the relevant environmental regulations.
Meet minimum standards of good practice across a range of sustainable development indicators.
We are audited by a qualified professionals to ensure standards are maintained.
