Experience the superb coastline of Jersey and develop your kayak skills on our introduction to kayaking courses in Jersey.

All courses are run by experienced British Canoeing coaches who are passionate about kayaking and are local residents who have kayaked worldwide. We’ll show you some of the best kayaking around Jersey. Derek Hairon is the author of the Channel Island section of Southeast England and Channel Islands sea kayaking guidebook.

Our ratios do not exceed 8 clients to 1 instructor. On many courses, the ratio is reduced.

1:1 lessons for both sea kayak and sit-on-tops can be arranged.

All equipment including male and female sized wetsuits is supplied. Drysuit hire is possible.

Discover Jersey on our Introduction to kayaking courses

For anyone who wants to discover sea kayaking or, improve her/his paddle skills.

Our choice of user-friendly sit-on-top or sit-inside sea kayaks means you’ll quickly master the basics. Accompanied by local expert staff explore caves, arches, and remote beaches. All the time we’ll keep our eyes open for marine life and dozens of different seabirds.

We aim to kayak from as many different locations as possible during the course and not remain stuck in one bay. Opportunity to be assessed for British Canoeing Paddlepower Discover and Explore Awards.

Introduction to Kayaking Courses (1-day class)

Ideal for anyone considering taking up kayaking or is unsure if this activity is for them. 

The marketplace for kayaks and kit is massive – and it is easy to buy the wrong gear. This course will not only develop your skills but may also save you money. Over 6 hours we’ll cover essential paddle techniques, safety and get top tips from some of the islands most experienced kayakers and the author of “Sit-on-top Kayak. A Beginner’s Manual”.

Those planning to go (or already are) kayak fishing can practice capsize and rescue methods with fishing gear along with anchoring techniques.

There is a reduced price if you have all your own equipment and a kayak.

All equipment is supplied along with a selection of sit-on-top/sit inside kayaks to help you discover which design is best for you.

Free kayak Safety class

This free kayak class is an excellent opportunity to get top tips and safety advice from the experts at Jersey Kayak Adventures, the islands only specialist kayak company.

The 2-hour class is ideal for anyone who already owns or is considering buying a kayak.

Free, if you use your own kayak, paddle, wetsuit, buoyancy aid, paddle jacket and footwear.

If you need to use one of our kayaks, you can join the class at the special price of £35 (includes kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, paddle jacket and a long-john style wetsuit).
